In Students Own Words

What SPANners have to say about their experience

My two-month stay in Morocco provided me with the resources to navigate various situations that require resilience, determination, and drive.  I now feel comfortable with my own instincts and knowledge to travel alone and discover the world for myself.

[SPAN was] the best experience of my life to date.  I had never felt so independent and free until my summer in Russia.

I made many lifelong friends throughout my time in Morocco.  Even a year later, this experience is one that I bring into conversation almost every day.  I am forever grateful for the opportunity.  I became more confident in myself, more at peace with uncertain circumstances, and trusting my abilities.  SPAN is the best way to study abroad, because I had the freedom to make mistakes, learn, and grow.  Thank you to all of the people that supported me in this adventure.

In complete honesty, the SPAN experience has been one of great challenge; but, it has stretched me to persist through physical and mental struggle, and has matured and expanded my passions, leading me to an articulatable vision for the next steps of my career.  Overall, I would repeat my SPAN experience in a heartbeat.  I am grateful for the encouragement of independence and initiative; I think that the experience I had with SPAN was free of the prefabrication that a lot of study abroad programs (in my opinion) are based upon.  I gained a new level of self-awareness, as well as an arsenal of memories and reflections, that I will bring to the table.
